Kiri - Women Empowerment
Tagline & concept copy for a designer-collaboration pack
The line
自分にやさしく、わたしらしく
Be kind to yourself. Be true to yourself.
The insight
In Japan, women are often the ones holding everything together — for their families, their colleagues, their parents. "Self-care" as a Western concept can feel indulgent, even selfish, in that context. The brief wasn't to tell women to put themselves first. It was to give them quiet permission to put themselves in — to make a small space for themselves inside a day that already belongs to everyone else.
The craft
I wanted a line that felt like something a woman might say to herself, not something a brand was saying at her.
A few specific choices:
Hiragana throughout. No kanji weight. The line had to feel soft enough to whisper.
やさしく / らしく. The internal rhyme gives the line a small song-like quality — easy to remember, easy to repeat.
自分 → わたし. The shift from the neutral 自分 ("oneself") to the more personal わたし ("I, me") is the whole argument of the line in one word. Kindness starts general; identity is specific.
